LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Metro Councilwoman Tammy Hawkins is calling on the city and Mayor Craig Greenberg for urgent facility improvements and upgrades to youth resources at Schooler Prep Academy.

Hawkins was joined by Coach James Schooler, who the academy was named after, along with parents and students to ask for support from the community and local stakeholders to ensure necessary upgrades are made this year.

The program offers sports, mentoring, financial literacy and an engineering program.

Schooler Prep Academy was founded in 2017 and serves nearly 1,000 children a week in the Portland neighborhood's Anchor Building.

Hawkins said the facility needs an expansion.

“Schooler Prep Academy not only changes lives, it removes barriers,” she said. “I am asking our city, my colleagues, the mayor and the administration, along with the community to understand that Schooler Prep Academy has outgrown its location.”

Donations for the upgrades can be made at Commonwealth Credit Union on Cane Run Road.
